FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

AFSCME District Councils 36 and 57 Endorse Amy Slavensky in Competitive Race for Assembly District 7

SACRAMENTO, CA —Today, AFSCME District Council 36, which represents nearly 30,000 members across Southern California, and AFSCME District Council 57, which represents 35,000 members throughout Northern California and the Central Valley, endorsed Amy Slavensky in the race for Assembly District 7.

“Our members know that our economy and the very nature of work are changing, and without strong representation in Sacramento, they will get left behind,” said Veronica Gunn, President of AFSCME District Council 36. “Amy knows that our economy and California benefit when workers have the support they need to do their job and provide for themselves and their families, and I know she’s prepared to fight for them in the Assembly.”

“Amy knows that standing up for working families doesn’t stop at the bargaining table,” Richard Fuentes, AFSCME Council 57 PAC Chair. “Californians need and deserve representation on policies that impact their workplace, life, and family, from the economy to education to the environment to healthcare. Amy knows from her lifetime in education what it means to listen and serve her community, and that’s exactly what our members want to see in the Assembly.”

“Working families are the backbone of California, and they always have been,” said Amy Slavensky. “Over my career, I’ve seen far too many instances where the well-being of workers is seen as a hindrance, and I have pushed back at every opportunity because it’s wrong, morally and practically. We need an economy that works for everybody, especially as it evolves, and I will always be on the side of working Californians.”

These new endorsements add to a growing list of powerful labor groups supporting Amy, including the Sacramento Central Labor Council, the California Teachers Association, the California School Employees Association, Service Employees International Union, United Domestic Workers, Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 447, Teamsters, and more.
