Educator Amy Slavensky Advances to General Election in Race for California Assembly District 7

Slavensky ready to defeat MAGA incumbent Josh Hoover

SACRAMENTO, CA—Today, even as primary results continue to be reported, it is confirmed that educator Amy Slavensky will face incumbent Assemblymember Josh Hoover in November for the competitive race for Assembly District 7. Born and raised in the district, her primary vote tally so far shows strong community support for this first-time Assembly candidate.

Assembly District 7 remains a prime pickup opportunity for Democrats in 2026. Democratic voter registration surpasses Republicans by over 5%, with higher than average turnout expected among Democrats. Voters also have a growing awareness of how Assemblymember Josh Hoover has failed to show up for his district, especially on healthcare, education, and affordability.

“It’s clear that voters in District 7 are ready for somebody who will show up for them, not more of the status quo,” said Amy Slavensky, candidate for Assembly District 7. “Unlike my opponent, I am not a seasoned politician. I am an educator and public servant who knows what it means to advocate and deliver for families in my community. From health care to education to affordability, I know that we can do better, and I am ready to be the champion District 7 deserves in Sacramento.”

Amy began as a teacher and rose through the ranks to lead as superintendent in nearby Amador County Unified School District and deputy superintendent in San Juan Unified School District. Over her 40-year career, she tackled multi-million dollar budget deficits, and led schools through the COVID-19 pandemic, all while adapting to changes to state education policies.

Amy has been endorsed by State Assembly Speaker Rivas and many important labor groups, including the Sacramento Central Labor Council, the California Teachers Association, the California School Employees Association, Service Employees International Union, Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 447, Teamsters and more. She also has strong support from a growing list of advocacy groups, including Equality California, Planned Parenthood Advocates Mar Monte, and many  community leaders and organizations.
